Happily, once in a while, something actually works out. Case in point, long-time collaborators Dan and Steve, were looking for an additional partner for a new music ensemble. Turns out, the perfect guy for the job lives just half an hour away, over in the next valley.
So pioneer flatpicker Dan Crary, and longtime singer/songwriter Steve Spurgin found their man: he's multi-instrumentalist and singer Keith Little, and he's a neighbor up here in the Sierra foothills. But if good geography got them together the first time, a shared passion for the music itself created the ensemble: Dan Crary & Thunderation.
Dan, Steve, and Keith all come together rooted deep in traditional music; together, they entertain audiences with new songs and old stories, blazing instrumental virtuosity, and deep- down, powerfully felt musical moments.
A concert by Thunderation is whistling winds in the pines, rambling boys and tragic girls, joys and laughter from old times, fast and furious instrumental tunes and a little touch of glory-to-god. And it’s ghosts of Jimmie Rogers and The Carter Family and Bill and Lester and Earl and Woodie Guthrie and all the greats who showed us the way
When Thunderation plays, you may "shiver when the cold wind blows," but it's OK because pretty soon, "sun's gonna' shine in my back door someday."
