Alfie Myhre’s Stories from the Road
This man is a true music legend – and he is one of our very own. Alfie Myhre has been charming Canadian fans with his fiddle for eight decades. At age 11 he became the “Boy with the Million-Dollar Personality” and that gold continues to shimmer through his fiddle artistry and his one-of-a-kind smile.
From the 1950’s to present, there is a lifetime of stories, and we look forward to Alfie sharing a handful of these stories and playing the tunes that have woven the fabric of a magnificent career. From leaving high school to join Frankie Rogers on tour, to the hay days of national radio shows with the likes of Stu Davis, these stories will surely be a main stage offering not to be missed. Of course, there were wild and crazy times with the world-famous Wilf Carter Show, but all the while Alfie was absorbing different styles of music and advancing his fiddle mastery. Then in the late 60’s he opened the House of Banjo (now Myhre’s Music) and headed back on the road to win a raft of fiddle contests including the Grand North American Fiddle Championships in 1984 and 1986.
We are over the moon to have Alfie Myhre back on our mainstage after the standing ovation he received at our inaugural RiverCity Bluegrass 2025. Joining him once again is his son Byron on mandolin/fiddle and grandson Tanner on guitar. Also, along for this road trip is good friend Matt Hotte. Make sure you arrive early to secure your seats for this once-only Saturday afternoon treat!
