John Reischman New Time & Old Time Acoustic

RiverCity Bluegrass Festival - John Reischman

John Reischman’s solo project, New Time & Old Acoustic, was much deserving of its 2022 Juno nomination and we are delighted to reprise this landmark project for our 2026 RiverCity audience.  While usually touring with his beloved Jaybirds, Reischman will be recreating this special recording with friends, Trent Freeman on fiddle (also on the recording), Eli West on guitar and Sam Howard on bass.

More than a cheeky play on words, Reischman has described New Time & Old Acoustic as uniquely his --from scratch – created during that infamous period of collective solitude.  The process started with the tunes and the arrangements, then the selection of musicians followed by the recording process and general artistic direction.  The result is a stunning collection of twelve original compositions and two traditional tunes that is nothing short of a classic.

Reischman is true bluegrass royalty with a career spanning more than forty years.  From the San Francisco band, The Good Ol’ Persons to his time as a founding member of The Tony Rice Unit, this musician is a tour de force.   Reischman’s exquisite technique, tone and timing are as legendary as his 1924 Lloyd Loar F5 mandolin.  There is no doubt, his performances and workshop at this year’s RiverCity will be a shining light in the winter sky.
