Kenny Mak is well known in local bluegrass circles as the jokester behind the Prairie Sky rhythm section. Born in Winnipeg (you knew he had to be), Kenny started playing bass in 1982. He is self-taught -- studying and copying the greats while developing the Mak style we know and love.
His philosophy about the bass: “it’s an instrument that no one notices until it’s not there. It’s the glue of the band; it fills the low end, and I love being part of the rhythm section.” Having started as a drummer, Kenny comes by that love of rhythm honestly. He has played drums and bass in several musical genres but prefers the jamming element of bluegrass. “Where else can you jump in with people you don't know and play a tune, on stage, in a hall, living room, or the middle of a field.”
Join Kenny in exploring bass fundamentals. Tell him what you want to learn by email at kenny@kennymak.net and he’ll do his best to make it happen so we have a successful session.
