Lonesome Town Painters
“The Lonesome Town Painters excel at combining skill and sentiment. Unlike some of their contemporaries, they make no attempt to veer from the template or add any unexpected elements to the mix. Rather, they do the opposite…..” ”
These four friends from the Vancouver area are as hardcore bluegrass as it comes. First meeting through the Pacific Bluegrass jam at the Anza club more than 10 years ago, they agreed on a regular practice schedule to hone their skills around a single mic and then started hunting down places to perform. To say they have been successful is an understatement. They have now released four albums, and they are working on their next release of original music.
Edmonton audiences know well the dapper look, style and sound that harkens back to the raw and ragged edge of the bluegrass genre. With Patrick Bartel on banjo, Angelo Eidse on guitar, Fred Beach on bass and Jeremy Freeman on mandolin, this crew draws deeply from the masters of the golden era. They also proudly perform originals that are at once as fresh as they are timeless. Anchored by soaring harmonies, melodic instrumentation and high tempo drive, their performances are spirited and highly entertaining.
“Their picking, lead singing and harmonies are impeccable. And their original songs….are starkly original and emotionally and thematically varied, even as they adhere to strict early bluegrass conventions.”
