The Stanley County Cut Ups

Rivercity Bluegrass Festival - Stanley County Cut Ups

Known in the bison province as Winnipeg’s Bluegrass Supergroup, this band combines crisp northern rhythm with southern sensibilities.  From hard-drivin’ banjo solos to four-part harmony singing and blues infused mandolin breaks to hair-raising fiddle tunes, this quintet covers the bluegrass distance all the way across the prairies to Edmonton.

The Stanley County Cut Ups have been playing together in different configurations for 20 years or so.  The group is anchored by Jess Reimer on bass, Jeremy Penner on fiddle, Jeremy Hamm on mandolin/fiddle, T.J. Blair on guitar, and Tim Osmond on banjo/dobro.  Vocal harmonies feature prominently – this group loves two, three or four parts in the bluegrass style reaching through traditional numbers as well as original compositions.  Leaning heavily on their influences of the Stanley Brothers, Jim & Jesse McReynolds, Bill Monroe and Hazel Dickens,  the Cut Ups definitely take pride in their high and lonesome sound.

This group has also spent some time honing their craft in the studio with a number of recordings including the 2025 tribute to Del McCoury, “All Aboard”.  There’s no doubt the studio work helped to lock in a sound that one reviewer describes as “engaging, invigorating and just plain unified jollification”.

Bottomline - we are super pleased to finally round up and bring these Cut Ups to Edmonton.
