Mandolin

This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to learn from a true mandolin legend.  Grammy Award-winning musician John Reischman has been a foundational mandolinist, composer, bandleader, and musical educator in bluegrass and North American roots and folk since the 1980s. A member of the groundbreaking Tony Rice Unit, Reischman’s mastery of bluegrass, old-time, swing, and multiple Latin American musical styles, coupled with a seasoned sense of tone, taste, and musicality, has brought him a global reputation as one of the finest mandolinists of our time.

Flat Picking Guitar

Eli West is an American roots and bluegrass musician from the Pacific Northwest and has much to share with his students. He describes himself as “…a multi-instrumental creator of sonic spaces” and believes that his previous training as a designer informs a sound that is lush – neither manicured nor overgrown.  Lauded by Tim O’Brien as a musician who is “making music the World needs,” Eli has fostered a reputation for producing organic and considered guitar tones.  This has led to collaborations with such musicians as Laurie Lewis, Bill Frisell, John Reischman, Julie Fowlis, and many other pillars of the bluegrass and Americana movement.

We are thrilled to be able to reprise and expand the vocal harmonies workshop featured in the IBMA award-winning 20 for 20 online Blueberry series.  This workshop will be led the by pitch-perfect harmony vocals of Jeremy Stephens and Corrina Rose Logston Stephens also known as “the Stephens Brothers”. This life-partner duo has worked tirelessly to capture the “brother-style” harmonies of Don Reno & Red Smiley, The Stanley Brothers, and the Louvin Brothers and on that journey has also performed with Jesse McReynolds before his passing in 2023.
As a freelancer, Corrina has also worked with many artists including David Peterson and Jim Lauderdale as well as guesting on stage with Del McCoury, Peter Rowan, Alison Krauss, Charlie Louvin, and Bobby Osborne. A 2012 graduate of Belmont University, Corrina placed 1st in the Bluegrass Fiddle category at the Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention of the same year.
While Jeremy has recently released a solo project on the prestigious Rebel Records, called “How I Hear It”. The review describers it as a tutorial on this beautiful musical mind which includes Jeremy’s own blistering banjo instrumentals, tasteful guitar stylings, and smooth lead and tenor vocals.

Bluegrass Fiddle

Trent Freeman is an innovative fiddler, whose unique blend of groove, harmony, and personal style sets him apart.  As part of the bluegrass chamber group, The Fretless, he has toured extensively across Canada and worldwide, including Australia, Europe, and South and North America with top billing at Wintergrass 2025.  Now living in Vancouver, he is a Juno award winner and was also nominated for a 2012 Canadian Folk Music Award.  Trent recalls a transformative moment when he heard Vassar Clements and Stuart Duncan playing with such freedom – “it opened up a whole new world of expression and inspired me to study improvisation..”  Come and take a page from that world of expression.

Bass

Oh, you lucky bass players.  This workshop is sure to be a stunner thanks to the talents of this incredible musician.  Sam Howard is a bassist for sure, but he is also a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, arranger, producer, and composer based in Nashville, TN. He has spent more than twenty years touring the globe and has played and sung with the likes of Grammy-winning superstar Molly Tuttle, banjo/slide-guitar master Tony Furtado, mandolin wiz Chris Thile, and dobro pal Jerry Douglas.  When not on stage or in the studio, Sam stays busy keeping up with his young son, composing new music, listening to the birds singing, and roasting coffee.  Sam loves to make music with new people, and he looks forward to sharing that love with his new RiverCity workshop friends.

RiverCity Bluegrass Festival - Daniel Amick

Daniel Amick
High Fidelity
Five String Banjo

Daniel Amick is thrilled to lead this year’s banjo workshop.  He started at a young age on the piano and clawhammer banjo and, thanks to a friend, he heard you could make good money competing in local bluegrass contests.  That’s when he adapted and won a national 5-string banjo title as well as guitar and other contests at events such as the prestigious Smithville, Tennessee Fiddlers Jamboree. In fact, he met his High Fidelity band mates in 2014 at one of those contests.
While not practicing an instrument, Daniel also has a company that takes up and resells railroad track and a family farm in Centerville, Tennessee with animals, a vineyard/orchard, a sawmill for our large woodlot, a retail lumber and furniture store, and a venue for festivals and events.

RiverCity Bluegrass Festival - Patrick Hamilton

Patrick Hamilton
Happy Trails, Prospector
Rhythm Guitar

Don’t let his low-key demeanor fool you; Patrick “Patty” Hamilton is a tour de force of a musician. Apart from guitar pickin’, Patty also frequents the claw-Hammer banjo and drums. Born in Whitehorse, Yukon and raised by professional musicians, Patty has spent a lifetime refining his guitar craft.  As a committed student and educator, he is looking forward to sharing his special insights on the Jimmy Martin and Lester Flatts rhythm styles and how to improve those G runs.
In 2022, Patty released his solo album “In the Year of Our Lord Paul Shaffer” under the name Diamond Dino.  Reviews describe the album as reminiscent of northern summers that burn short and bright with intricacy and light.  We look forward to Patty bringing some of that bright light to our RiverCity winter.

RiverCity Bluegrass Festival - Miles Zurawell - Dobro

Miles Zurawell
Happy Trails, Prospector
Dobro

While studying biology, Miles was inspired to pick up the banjo by Louisiana ex-pat Dr. Lee Foote. It was then that he fell in love with bluegrass and old-time music through the banjo and later the dobro. After several years in the corporate world, Miles put his career on hold and left his home in Ardrossan, Alberta to seek out dobro masters Ivan Rosenberg, Billy Cardine, and Mike Witcher.  He then went on the road touring with acclaimed artists Zachary Lucky, John Lowell, Blaine Sprouse, Greg Blake, and Veranda.
Miles loves exploring diverse fiddle traditions on the dobro and banjo and recently performed his thoughts on his beautifully crafted debut album, Far Afield.  Featuring several other RiverCity artists including Trent Freeman, John Reischman and Eli West, Miles received a Canadian Folk Music nomination in 2024 for his work. As a self-proclaimed educator, we are grateful to have him back.
