Rocky Mountain Ramblers
As with last year, this group of Ramblers will be working the festival, helping back-up the Uptown Open Stage as well as our Kid Fiddlers. This year we are thrilled to welcome the Rocky Mountain Ramblers to the Main Stage to present a set of hard-driving traditional bluegrass.
Like a train barreling through the Rockies, this band gathers so much from Alberta’s bluegrass scene. Ardrossan’s own Kayla Hotte, on guitar, also has a passion for old-time music and classic country and is well known for heading up the traditional country band, Kayla Hotte and her Rodeo Pals. Multi-instrumentalist and brother, Matt Hotte, is revered for his traditional bluegrass artistry having toured in the US and beyond with such bands as Lost Highway, The Liberty Bluegrass Boys, and David Peterson and 1946. Then there’s Sherwood Park’s Byron Myhre on fiddle, who was a founding member of the famed Jerusalem Ridge, and is a well sought-after sideman cutting his teeth in earlier years as a fiddle contest champion. Holding down the bass is multi-instrumentalist Zach Robertson who hails from Grande Prairie and came to Edmonton to study jazz at Grant McEwan but stayed to anchor our local acoustic scene as a much-loved music instructor.
We can’t wait to soak up the crisp high and lonesome sounds of the Rocky Mountain Ramblers. On a special note, we are so pleased to have Matt back at the festival after his very tough year.
